Meet the Team

History of Obvis

They Obvis team divides neatly into two groups. In computer business terms they might be described as front and back office. The first point of contact will often be Philip Denning. He deals with all the business side, keeping accounts, receiving and despatching orders, organising seminars and courses. He has at least three lives. He cares with two small children while his wife works full-time. He is a PhD student in the Department of English at the University of Exeter. In his spare time he tries to keep Bill under control in the two businesses he runs.

Bill Harvey provides all the technical input to Archie and all the technical support for the program. He works as a consultant through his company Bill Harvey Associates Ltd, through which all arch training is also carried out. He also has a slowly increasing job as carer for Sue, his wife, who has had MS for 35 years. You are invited to explore Bill's blog and the two websites describing his other business interests.

The back office team is really one person, Zoltán Jushász. The Zoltán began as an electrical engineer but is now a computer scientist teaching and researching at the University of Vesprem. He and Bill met in 1999 when Zoltán was teaching in Exeter. When Fraser Smith gave up his involvement with Archie, Zoltán took over the programming role. Users rarely interact directly with Zoltán though he does occasionally get to Archie seminars when he is in the UK.
